The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the asymptotic setting for a class of nonlinear boundary-value problems. The author shows how the result of \textit{B. Z. Kacewicz} [J. Complexity 3, 41--56 (1987; Zbl 0651.65047)] can be modified and how a classical result from approximation theory, a version of the Bernstein lethargy theorem, can be derived.
