As usual, let \(N(\alpha, T)\) denote the number of zeros \(\rho\) of the Riemann zeta-function in the rectangle \({1\over 2}\leq \alpha\leq \text{Re} (\rho)< 1\); \(0< \text{Im} (\rho)\leq T\). Concerning the estimates \[ N(\alpha, T)\leq C_1 T^{a(1- \alpha)} (\log T)^c, \tag{1} \] \textit{M. N. Huxley} [Invent. Math. 15, No. 2, 164-170 (1972; Zbl 0241.10026)]\ showed that (1) holds with \(a= 2.4\), \(c=44\). Previously, the author [Math. Notes 51, No. 6, 553-558 (1992); translation from Mat. Zametki 51, No. 6, 32-40 (1992; Zbl 0797.11067)]\ (using Karatsuba's method) showed that (1) holds with \(a= 2.4\), \(c= 33.6\). In this paper, (1) is shown to hold with \(a= 2.4\), \(c= 18.2\) (improving on the previous result).
