The notion of SAGBI-bases was introduced by \textit{L. Robbiano} and \textit{M. Sweedler} [in: Commutative Algebra, Proc. Workshop, Salvador 1988, Lect. Notes Math. 1430, 61-87 (1990; Zbl 0725.13013)] in order to study in a computational way subalgebras of the polynomial ring \(k[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) (\(k\) a field). The author generalizes in the paper the notion of SAGBI-bases for the case of subalgebras \(A\subseteq R[x_1,\dots,x_n]\), where \(R\) is a noetherian domain (in which linear algebra can be done in a constructive way). Successively he considers the case of an ideal \(I\subseteq A\) and gives the notion of SAGBI-Gröbner basis for \(I\) (which is a sort of Gröbner basis for \(I\) in the subalgebra \(A\)). In both generalizations he gives algorithms to construct the desired bases. Finally the author shows how to use the developed tools in order to construct a set of generators for the syzygies in \(A\) of a finite subset \(H\) of \(A\).
