This paper studies pairs of non-singular quadratic matrix polynomials and proves that two such systems are isospectral iff there exists an associated pair of coprime first degree matrix polynomial filters. It is shown how to form coprime filters from three kinds of structure preserving transformations that connect the pair. All possible filters for the given pair of systems can be obtained from these structure preserving transformation. The ultimate goals is to ascertain whether a given system of quadratic matrix polynomials can be represented by a diagonal one, thereby achieving modal control. A computed example is given.
