The fixed point index is introduced under certain compactness assumptions on countable sets. The author proves many important theorems, statements which are equivalent, properties for the index of \((F,\Omega)\) (fixed point property, homotopy invariance, additivity, normalization, restriction) and obtains a generalization of the Fredholm alternative.
