Let \(H(z)\) be a real rational \(n_1\times n_2\) matrix. Then it has, as was shown in the paper of \textit{R. Cantó, C. Coll} and \textit{E. Sánchez} [Appl. Math. Lett. 10, No. 3, 69-73 (1997; Zbl 0890.93061)], the left and right decompositions \(H(z)=N^r(z)(D^r(z))^{-1}=(D^l(z))^{-1}N^l(z)\), where \(D^r(z), D^l(z), N^r(z), N^l(z)\) are real polynomial \(n_2\times n_2, n_1\times n_1, n_1\times n_2, n_1\times n_2\) matrices, respectively, so that the pair \((D^r(z), N^r(z))\) is right coprime and the pair \((D^l(z), N^l(z))\) is left coprime, and these two pairs are so-called \(N\)-block-ordered (here \(N\) is a common divisor of \(n_1\) and \(n_2\)). In the first part of the paper under review the authors obtain the following result: given an \(N\)-block-ordered right coprime decomposition \(H(z)=N^r(z)(D^r(z))^{-1}\), there exist an \(N\)-block-ordered left coprime decomposition \(H(z)=(D^l(z))^{-1}N^l(z)\) and two \(N\)-block-ordered left and right coprime pairs \((X^l(z), Y^l(z))\) and \((X^r(z), Y^r(z))\) such that the generalized Bezout identity \[ \left[\begin{matrix} Y^l(z) & X^l(z) \cr -N^l(z) & D^l(z)\end{matrix}\right]\left[\begin{matrix} D^r(z) & -X^r(z) \cr N^r(z) & Y^r(z)\end{matrix}\right]=\left[\begin{matrix} I & 0 \cr 0 & I \end{matrix}\right] \] is satisfied. An algorithm for obtaining the eight matrices in the left-hand side of this identity is given. In the second part of this paper, the latter result is applied to obtain the generalized Bezout identity for a periodic collection of transfer matrices corresponding to a given discrete-time \(N\)-periodic linear control system.
