The paper under review deals with the location, multiplicities and the asymptotic behaviour of eigenvalues on the real axis, the structure of the root subspaces, the oscillation properties of eigenfunctions and the basis properties in \(L_p(0,1)\), \(1< p<\infty\), of subsystems of root functions of a fourth order boundary value problem which contains a spectral parameter in the boundary conditions. To this end, the authors reduce this problem to a spectral problem for a self-adjoint operator in a suitable Pontryagin space and they study some spectral properties of this operator.
