The main result of the paper under review is the classification of infinite dimensional braided vector spaces \(V\) over an abelian group whose components are blocks or points and such that the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of the corresponding Nichols algebra \(\mathcal B(V)\) is finite. This result assumes the validity of a conjecture, formulated by the authors in [``On finite GK-dimensional Nichols algebras over abelian groups'', Mem. Amer. Math. Soc. (to appear)], which says that a finite-dimensional braided vector space of diagonal type such that the corresponding Nichols algebra has finite GK-dimension has a so-called arithmetic root system. Examples of Nichols algebras of infinite rank with Gelfand-Kirillov dimension \(n\) are presented for all \(n \geq 2\).
