For the numerical approximation of eigenvalues of the two-dimensional integral operator \({\mathcal K}\) with \({\mathcal K} u (s,t) = \int_a^b \int_c^d K(s,t,x,y) u(x,y) \, dx \, dy\), where \(K\) is assumed to be continuous, a numerical scheme is discussed. The approach is based on an iterated discrete Galerkin method. The underlying numerical integration method is chosen such that superconvergence for the eigenvalues and iterated eigenvectors is obtained. Further improvements in the convergence behaviour are then achieved via Richardson extrapolation.
