    Solvability of the following linear problem is discussed. \[ \begin{aligned} &B(u_ t+Au) =\Delta u+ f(t,x), \quad t\in (0,T], \quad x\in\mathbb{R}^ n_ +, \tag{1}\\ &u|_{t=0}=\varphi, \quad x\in \mathbb{R}^ n_ +; \qquad u|_{x_ n=0} =\mu, \quad t\in[0,T], \end{aligned} \] where \(\mathbb{R}^ n_ +:= \{x\in\mathbb{R}^ n\mid x_ n>0\}\), \(f\), \(\varphi\) and \(\mu\) are given functions taking their values in a Banach space \(E\), and the linear operators \(-B\neq 0\) and \(-A\) generate (commuting) strongly continuous \(C_ 0\)-semigroups \(U(\cdot,-B)\) and \(U(\cdot,-A)\), respectively; moreover the type of \(U(\cdot,-B)\) is less than or equal to zero [see \textit{E. Hille} and \textit{R. S. Phillips}, Functional analysis and semigroups (Providence 1957; Zbl 0078.100)]. To solve (1) the author considers an approximate problem of (1) in which \(B\) is replaced by \(\delta+B\) (\(\delta>0\)). With the help of the fundamental solution, the author gives a representation of solutions \(u^ \delta\) of the approximate problem. Under certain conditions on \(f\), \(\varphi\) and \(\mu\), it is then shown that as \(\delta\to 0\), \(u^ \delta\) converges to a function which solves (1).
