The authors consider continuous functions on the unit interval or the unit square, satisfying some Hölder type conditions. The spaces of these functions are equipped with suitable Hölder norms. In this setting the approximation by the classical Bernstein operators, as well as by tensor products and Boolean sums of them, is investigated. Estimates of the degree of convergence are given. It is remarked that similar results can be obtained for other classical sequences of approximating operators.
