The exact asymptotic behavior of entire nonnegative large solutions of the equation \(\Delta u = b(x)f(u)\) with \(x\in{\mathbb R}^N\), a continuous nonnegative function \(b\) and a positive nondecreasing function \(f\), is studied using Karamata regular variation theory. Assumptions on the function \(f\) include the Keller-Osserman condition and \(f\) is supposed either rapidly or regularly varying at infinity with its index greater or equal to \(1\).
