Let \(D\) be the unit disk of the complex plane. Given a collection \(\mathcal L\) consisting of finitely many smooth curves in \(D\) which are locally hypercycles at boundary points where two or more of those curves converge and satisfy some extra technical conditions, the author introduces a certain class \(PC(D, \mathcal L)\) of bounded piecewise continuous functions on \(D\setminus \mathcal L\). The author then studies the \(C^*\)-algebra \(\mathcal R\) generated by all operators on \(L_2(D)\) (the usual Lebesgue space in the author's notation) of the form \(A=aI+bP+K\), where \(I\) is the identity operator, \(P\) is the harmonic Bergman projection, \(K\) is a compact operator, and \(a, b\in PC(D, \mathcal L)\). Associated with the algebra \(\mathcal R\) is the Calkin algebra \(\widehat{\mathcal R}=\mathcal R/\mathcal K\) where \(\mathcal K\) is the algebra of all compact operators on \(L_2(D)\). The main results are descriptions of the algebra \(\widehat{\mathcal R}\) and its local algebras. While the descriptions are given in terms of explicit isomorphisms taking those algebras onto more concrete ones, they are also quite technical in nature.
