Let \(T:A\to B \) be a homomorphism between uniform Fréchet algebras and \(g_T:M(B)\to M(A) \) the restriction to the spectrum of \(B\), \(M(B)\), of the adjoint map \(T^*\). The homomorphism \(T:A\to B \) is said to be pointwise bounded if there is \(0\)-neighborhood \(V\) in \(A\) such that \((\psi\circ T)(V)\) is bounded for every \(\psi\in M(B)\). Every (weakly) compact homomorphism is pointwise bounded and the converse fails as pointed out by Example 2.13 in [\textit{P. Galindo} et al., Math. Nachr. 236, 109--118 (2002; Zbl 1024.46010)]. The authors extend Theorem 1 in [loc.\,cit.]\ by proving that every pointwise bounded homomorphism ranges into a uniform Banach algebra. For the spectrum, denote by \(\tau\) either the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets, \(\tau_0\), or the one of uniform convergence on bounded sets, \(\tau_\beta\). The paper's main result is to prove that, if \(T:A\to B \) is compact, then (a) \(g_T\) maps \(\tau\)-bounded sets into \(\tau\)-compact sets and (b) there is a compact \(K\) set in \(M(B)\) such that \(g_T\) maps \(\tau\)-compact subsets of \(M(B)\) into \(K\).
