Minimax methods are essential tools in the analysis of semilinear PDE by using the famous mountain pass theorem. In this paper, a modification of Chen, Ni, and Zhou's algorithm is presented. This modification guarantees that the critical points found are fixed-points of a metric projector on a closed cone. Positivity, negativity, and monotonicity can be expressed in this way. A computational deformation lemma is proved, which must be seen as a local version of the usual deformation lemma. Then, a minimax algorithm with projector is introduced. Its stability and convergence is proved with the mentioned new deformation lemma. Some applications to semilinear elliptic problems are added. In these applications an explicit formula for the projector and an algorithm for computing are given.
