Let \(V\) be a six dimensional vector space over a field \(\mathbb{F}\), let \(f\) be a non-degenerate alternating bilinear form on \(V\) and let \(\text{Sp}(V,f) \simeq \text{Sp}_6(\mathbb{F})\) denote the symplectic group associated with \((V,f)\). The group \(\text{GL}(V)\) has a natural action on the \(k\)-th exterior power \(\bigwedge^k(V)\) of \(V\) by means of \(\bigwedge^k(\theta)(v_1\wedge \cdots \wedge v_k) = \theta(v_1) \wedge \cdots \wedge \theta(v_k)\), for \(\theta \in \text{GL}(V)\). Two \(k\)-vectors \(\alpha_1\) and \(\alpha_2\) of \(V\) are equivalent if there exists a \(\theta \in \text{GL}(V)\) for which \(\bigwedge^k(\theta)(\alpha_1) = \alpha_2\). The smallest value of \(k\) for which the classification of the equivalence classes of \(k\)-vectors in nontrivial is the case \(k=3\). \textit{P. Revoy} [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr., Suppl., Mém. 59 (Colloq. sur les Formes Quadratiques II, Montpellier 1977), 141--155 (1979; Zbl 0405.15024)] has shown that this action defines five families of nonzero trivectors of \(V\) (four of whose are orbits for any choice of \(\mathbb{F}\)). In this paper, the authors study the problem of classifying the \(\text{Sp}(V,f)\)-equivalence classes of trivectors of \(V\), and divide three of these five families into orbits for the action of \(\text{Sp}(V,f)\) on \(\bigwedge^ 3(V)\). The case involving the other two families is not addressed in this paper.
