In this paper the Pompeiu problem [\textit{S. Helgason}, ``Groups and geometric analysis. Integral geometry, invariant differential operators, and spherical functions'', Orlando etc.: Academic Press (1984; Zbl 0543.58001)] is discussed. The author presents a description of the kernel of the local Pompeiu transform for some families of distributions on the sphere.
