Let \(R\) be a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic \((0,p)\), \(K\) its fraction field, \(m\) the maximal ideal of \(R\) and \(k = R/m\) perfect. Using \textit{W. Messing}'s deformation theory [The Crystals Associated to Barsotti-Tate Groups: With Applications to Abelian Varieties. Lect. Notes Math. 264 (1972; Zbl 0243.14013)] the author proves that if \(G\) is a Barsotti-Tate group which acquires good reduction over a finite extension \(K'\) of \(K\) then there exists a constant \(c \geq 2\) dependent on \(e= e(K'/\mathbb{Q}_p)\), the absolute ramification index, and the height of \(G\) such that \(G\) has a good reduction over \(R\) if and only if \(G[p^c]\) can be extended to a finite flat group scheme over \(R\). As a consequence of this he shows that if \(A\) is an abelian variety over \(K\) with potentially good reduction then there exists a constant \(c' \geq 2\) dependent on \(e(K'/\mathbb{Q}_p)\) and \(\dim A\) such that \(A\) has good reduction over \(K\) if and only if \(A[p^{c'}]\) can be extended to a finite flat group scheme over \(R\). Results similar to these, although with slightly different hypotheses and complete different methods of proof have been obtained by \textit{V. M. Bondarko} [St. Petersburg Math. J. 18 (5), 737--755 (2007; Zbl 1141.14027)].
