The authors study two related signatures very close to the border of finite axiomatisability. They are ordered monoids and semilattice-ordered monoids, and their signatures are \(\{\leq ,1^{\prime },;\}\) and \(\{\cdot ,1^{\prime },;\}\) respectively. The main result of this paper is that the representation class \(R(\{\cdot ,1^{\prime },;\})\) is not finitely axiomatisable.
