The authors study the following semilinear second-order boundary value problem on an infinite interval \[ u''-a(t)u=F(t,u), \quad t\geq t_0\geq 0,\quad u(t_0)=u_0, \,\,\, \lim_{t\to \infty}u(t)=0. \] An existence result is obtained by using a fixed-point theorem due to Furi and Pera. Also the asymptotic behavior of solutions and their first derivatives at infinity is discussed. The obtained results are compared with relevant known results in the literarture.
