A powerful method to construct examples of hyper-Kähler manifolds from others is given by the Hyper-Kähler reduction introduced in [\textit{N. I. Hitchin, A. Karlhede}, \textit{U. Lindström} and \textit{M. Roček}, Commun. Math. Phys. 108, 535--589 (1987; Zbl 0612.53043)]. For instance, this construction was applied in [\textit{G. W. Gibbons, P. Rychenkova} and \textit{R. Goto}, Commun. Math. Phys. 186, 581--599 (1997; Zbl 0886.58011)] to the flat space \(\mathbb H^d\) (where \(\mathbb H\) denotes the quaternions), to obtain some monopole moduli space metrics in explicit form. In the paper under review the authors apply the above method to Lie groups \(G\) endowed with an invariant hyper-Kähler structure under the tri-Hamiltonian and free action of a closed abelian subgroup by left multiplication. Such a group \(G\) is necessarily \(2\)-step solvable and a semidirect product of the form \(\mathbb H^p \times_{\theta} \mathbb H^q\), where \(\theta\) is a homomorphism from \(\mathbb H^p\) to a maximal torus \(T^q\) in Sp\((q)\) and the corresponding metric has to be flat. They show that the metric that they obtain on the hyper-Kähler quotient is complete and the quotient is diffeomorphic to an Euclidean space. In this way they get new complete hyper-Kähler metrics which generalize the Taubian-Calabi metrics [\textit{M. Roček}, Phys. D 15, 75--82 (1985; Zbl 0606.58009)] and the Lee-Weinberg-Yi metrics [\textit{K. Lee, E. J. Weinberg} and \textit{P. Yi}, ''The moduli space of many BPS monopoles for arbitrary gauge groups'', Phys. Rev. D 54, 1633--1643 (1996; Zbl 1099.58500)]. Moreover, a local expression of the hyper-Kähler quotient metrics is obtained in terms of the structure constants of the corresponding hyper-Kähler Lie group \(G\).
