The paper deals with a modification of the Navier-Stokes equations in which the viscosity equals zero in one direction. In that model, the velocity vector \(v=v(t,x)\) and the pressure \(p=p(t,x)\) satisfy \[ \partial_tv+(v.\nabla)v- \nu_h(\partial^2_{x_1}+\partial^2_{x_2}) v=-\nabla p, \quad \text{div}\,v=0, \quad \text{on } (0,\infty)\times \mathbb R^3 \] where \(\nu_h>0\) is a constant horizontal viscosity coefficient. The goal of the author is to complete the results from \textit{J.-Y. Chemin, B. Desjardins, I. Gallagher} and \textit{E. Grenier} [Math. Model. Numer. Anal. 34, No. 2, 315--335 (2000; Zbl 0954.76012)]. By this reason, denoting by \(\widehat u\) the Fourier transform of \(u\), he defines the anisotropic Besov-Sobolev space \({B}^{0,1/2}\) as the closure of \(C^\infty_0(\mathbb R^3)\) with respect to the norm \[ \| u\|_{B^{0,1/2}}=\sum_{q\in Z}\left(\int^\infty_{- \infty}\int^\infty_{-\infty}\int_{2^{q-1}<| \xi_ 3| <2^q}| \xi_3| | \widehat u(\xi)| ^2\,d\xi_1 \,d\xi_2 \,d\xi_3\right)^{1/2}. \] The main result of the paper states that if \(v_0\in B^{0,1/2}\), then there exists the unique local-in-time solution of the equations above with \(v_0\) as initial value. The proof is based on several estimates of the nonlinear term required by the Littlewood-Paley theory.
