Let \(\text{spec}(M,g)\) be spectrum of the scalar Laplacian on a compact Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) where each eigenvalue is repeated according to multiplicity. An isospectral deformation of \((M,g)\) is a family \(F\) of metrics \(g_\alpha\) so \(\text{spec}(M,g_\alpha)= \text{spec}(M,g)\) for all \(\alpha\in F\). The deformation is said to be nontrivial if \((M,g_\alpha)\) is not isometric to \((M,g_\beta)\) for \(\alpha\neq\beta\) and the variation is said to be multi-dimensional if \(F\) can be parametrized by more than one variable. The author establishes the existence of nontrivial multi-dimensional isospectral deformations of metrics on \(\text{SO}(n)\) for \(n=9\) or \(n\geq11\), on \(\text{SU}(n)\) for \(n\geq8\), and on \(\text{SP}(n)\) for \(n\geq4\) using techniques developed by \textit{D. Schueth} [Ann. Math. (2) 149, No. 1, 287--308 (1999; Zbl 0964.53027), J. Reine Angew. Math. 534, 41--94 (2001; Zbl 0986.58016)]. Two smooth functions \(\phi_1\) and \(\phi_2\) are said to be isospectral potentials if the eigenvalue spectrum of the Schroedinger operators \(h^2\Delta+\phi_1\) and \(h^2\Delta+\phi_2\) are isospectral for any choice of the Planck constant \(h\). The author also establishes the existence of noncongruent pairs of isospectral potentials and nonisometric pairs of isospectral conformally equivalent metrics on \(\text{Sp}(n)\) for \(n\geq6\).
