This book is devoted to a description of sliding mode control techniques applied to discrete-time linear plants. Both cases of discrete-time systems and the discretization of the continuous-time case are presented. Measurement and control signal applications are performed at constant amplitude time intervals, the control signal being held constant in each interval. However different strategies are also considered. Particular emphasis is placed on discrete-time output feedback design. After a short introduction on continuous-time sliding mode control, the following topics are presented. Multirate output feedback sliding control based on switching functions, or applied to linear time-invariant systems with uncertainty, including a discrete-time version of the integral sliding mode control technique; discrete-time quasi-sliding mode control of time-delay systems; output feedback for nonminimum phase systems and for some nonlinear cases; discrete-time terminal sliding mode; applications of the previous techniques to a few systems of practical interest. The exposition is mainly framed in a descriptive form, presenting many examples in detail. Some improvements of known results in the field are also included.
