The paper deals with the numerical analysis of a linear singularly perturbed boundary value problem with a convection function and a right hand side being discontinuous at exactly one point. As a consequence an interior layer appears in the solution. The author proposes an upwind hybrid finite difference scheme on a piecewise constant mesh to solve the problem. Moreover, convergence of almost second-order in the maximum norm is shown and the convergence is independent of the singular perturbation parameter. Finally, some numerical computations confirm the theoretical results and display the sharpness of the derived estimates.
