The authors study the asymptotics of the Krawtchouk polynomials \(K_n^N(z;p,q)\) as \(n,N\to\infty\) and the ratio \(n/N\to c\in(0,1)\). They use the modern Riemann-Hilbert approach. The region of validity of the approximation in the complex \(z\)-plane depends on the values of \(c\) and \(p\) and contains the most interesting interval in which these polynomials are orthogonal.
