Let \(p\) be a prime, let \((\mathcal{K,O},k)\) be a suitable \(p\)-modular system, and let \(b\) be a block (idempotent) of a finite group \(G\) with defect pointed group \(P_\gamma\) and source algebra \(B\). Puig has defined a hyperfocal subgroup \(\mathfrak h_G(P_\gamma)\) of \(P\) and a hyperfocal subalgebra \(D\) of \(B\), with respect to any normal subgroup \(Q\) of \(P\) containing \(\mathfrak h_G(P_\gamma)\). Then \(B=\bigoplus_{u\in P/Q}Du\) is a crossed product, and \(D\cap jP=Q\) where \(j\in\gamma\) denotes the identity element of \(B\). The author shows how the irreducible characters of \(G\) in \(b\) can be constructed from the irreducible characters of \(D\) and the irreducible characters of twisted group algebras of certain subgroups of \(P/Q\), via Clifford theory. He also considers the situation where \(P=Q\times R\) and \(R\trianglelefteq G\). He proves that in this case \(B\cong\overline B\otimes_{\mathcal O}\mathcal OR\) where \(\overline B\) is a source algebra of the block \(\overline b\) of \(\overline G:=G/R\) corresponding to \(b\).
