The authors consider an integrodifferential model for the spread of an epidemic involving n types of individuals. After giving an existence and uniqueness result for solutions, they study the asymptotic (long time) states. From their results they obtain conditions under which a major epidemic will or will not occur and the asymptotic states are characterized. The results are extended to the case of a spatial aspect with one or two dimensions.
