In the 1970's Bousfield and Ravenel formulated a telescope conjecture in the stable homotopy category. Based on the work of Keller, Krause and Solberg formulated a version of this conjecture for module categories over Artin algebras. In this article the authors give a formulation of the Krause-Solberg conjecture for arbitrary rings. It is stated in terms of a complete, hereditary cotorsion pair \((\mathcal{A,B})\) where \(\mathcal A\) and \(\mathcal B\) are closed under direct limits. The conjecture is that for such a pair every \(M\) in \(\mathcal A\) is the direct limit of objects of \(\mathcal A\) having a projective resolution with all terms finitely generated. They prove (among other results) the conjecture if the ring \(R\) is right Noetherian (their modules are right modules) and if there is a finite bound on the injective dimensions of the objects of \(\mathcal B\). There are many other results of interest in this paper. The paper is written in the authors' usual clear and informative style.
