Let \(G\) be a Hermitian symmetric simple Lie group, i.e., \(G\) is simple and the universal cover has finite center. Denote by \(\pi_G\) the projection of \(G\) onto its center factor group \(G/C(G)\). Let \(U(H)\) be the unitary group of a Hilbert space, endowed with the strong operator topology, and \(\pi_H : U(H) \to PU(H)\) the projection onto the center factor group. Then it is shown that any irreducible continuous projective unitary representation (i.e., group homomorphism \(\sigma: G \to PU(H)\)) lifts to an irreducible unitary pure pseudorepresentation \(\rho: G/C(G) \to U(H)\) such that \(\pi_H\circ \rho \circ \pi_G = \sigma\). Here, pure pseudorepresentation means that the map is a group homomorphism `up to \(\epsilon\)' with respect to the operator norm, and the restriction to every amenable subgroup is a homomorphism. This generalizes a result of \textit{V.~Bargmann} [Ann. Math.~59, 1--46 (1954; Zbl 0055.10304)] for simply connected groups. The proof uses the Guichardet-Wigner pseudocharacter of \(\tilde G\) introduced by the author [Ann.~Global Anal.~Geom.~20, 199--221 (2001; Zbl 0990.22002)].
