The groups \(E^{p,n-1}_ 1({\mathcal Y}_ \infty)\), \(p \geq 2\), of Vinogradov's \({\mathcal C}\)-spectral sequence for a scalar differential equation are discussed. Presentation of the group \(E^{2,n-1}_ 1({\mathcal Y}_ \infty)\) for evolution equations useful in practical computations is obtained. The groups \(E^{2,1}_ 1({\mathcal Y}_ \infty)\) for some evolution equations with one spatial variable are calculated (in particular, for the KdV, MKdV, PKdV and Burgers equations). Vanishing theorem for the groups \(E^{p,n-1}_ 1({\mathcal Y}_ \infty)\), \(p \geq 3\), are proved.
