The author studies the equation \(L_ ny+f(y)=h(x)\), \(0<x<T\), subject to certain boundary conditions at 0 and T where f is a \(C'\)-function defined on \({\mathbb{R}}\), \(h\in C[0,T]\) and \(L_ n\) is an n-th order linear differential disconjugate operator defined recursively by \(L_ iy=\rho_ i(L_{i-1}y)'\), \(i=1,2,...,n\), with the given functions \(\rho_ i\in C^{n-i}[0,T]\) and \(L_ 0y=\rho_ 0y\). Assuming that all the functions \(\rho_ i\) are positive on [0,T] he shows that the corresponding linear problem \(L_ ny+\lambda y=0\) has an increasing sequence of eigenvalues \(\lambda_ i\) with \(\lim_{i\to \infty}\lambda_ i=+\infty\) and that \(\phi_ 1\), an eigenfunction corresponding to \(\lambda_ 1\), does not vanish on (0,T). Replacing the function h(x) in the above equation by the expression \(s\phi_ 1(x)+h_ 1(x)\) where \(h_ 1\in C[0,T]\) and choosing \(k\in {\mathbb{N}}\) the author indicates a simple condition guaranteeing the existence of \(s^*>0\) such that for \(s\geq s^*\) the boundary value problem has at least 2k solutions.
