The paper aims at defining the notions of quantum fibre bundle and a connection on it. It starts from considering trivial quantum vector bundles with a Hopf algebra \(A\) in place of a structure group and a left \(A\)-comodule algebra \(V\) as a fibre. Quantum gauge transformations are introduced and transformation properties of quantum covariant derivatives are examined. As a next step, quantum principal bundles are treated. The algebra \(P\) of quantum functions on the total space is a right \(A\)- comodule and the algebra \(B\) of quantum functions living on the base is a subalgebra in \(P\) consisting of \(A\)-invariant functions. Questions related to local trivializations and patching together of different trivializations are investigated. A variety of examples follows. Some of them are treated on a general level, particularly those of quantum principal bundles over homogeneous spaces. Attention is paid to the construction of the quantum Dirac monopole bundle, worked out very explicitly. The paper contains a rich supplementary material involving, first of all, a survey of differential calculus on an algebra which turns out to be an important ingredient in all constructions.
