This short article contains nice proofs for some known results and new ones, concerning the coherence of some rings of holomorphic functions, especially for the noncoherence of the Wiener algebra of the polydisc. A unital commutative ring \(R\) is said to be coherent if the intersection of any two finitely generated ideals in \(R\) is finitely generated, and for every \(a\in R\), the annihilator Ann\((a):=\{x\in R: ax=0\}\) is finitely generated. For the one dimensional case, the noncoherence of some rings of holomorphic functions was known, for example, the disc algebra \(A(\overline{\mathbb{D}})\) [\textit{W. S. McVoy} and \textit{L. A. Rubel}, J. Funct. Anal. 21, 76--87 (1976; Zbl 0317.46049)] and the Wiener algebra \(W^+(\overline{\mathbb{D}})\) [\textit{R. Mortini} and \textit{M. von Renteln}, J. Aust. Math. Soc., Ser. A 46, No. 2, 220--228 (1989; Zbl 0677.46039)]. For the multidimensional case, the noncoherence of the ball and polydisc algebra was proved in [\textit{E. Amar}, Ill. J. Math. 25, 68--73 (1981; Zbl 0493.32006)]. An interesting fact is that the Hardy algebra \(H^\infty (\mathbb{D})\) of the unit disc in \(\mathbb{C}\) is coherent, but the Hardy algebras of the ball and of the polydisc are noncoherent. The main result of this paper is a technique to proof the coherence by reducing the number of variables, which permits to obtain that the Wiener algebra of the polydisc \(W^+(\overline{\mathbb{D}}^n)\) is not coherent. Also, the known results about the polydisc algebra \(A(\overline{\mathbb{D}}^n)\) and the ball algebra \(A(\overline{\mathbb{B}_n})\) are obtained as a simple corollary. As an application, the obtained results have consequences for the stabilization problem in Control Theory, where \(W^+(\overline{\mathbb{D}}^n)\) represents a class of stable transfer functions of discrete multidimensional systems.
