This short research monograph, consisting of four chapters, deals with modern information theory. The chapter headings are: 1. Entropy of Elementary Information Sources 2. Stationary Information Sources 3. Communication in the Presence of Noise 4. Quantum Coding Theorems The book contains three pages of Bibliography and two pages of Index. The chapters are of increasing difficulty as far as the prerequisites are concerned. According to the author, a large part of the first three chapters does not use anything more than Chebyshev's inequality. However, for certain parts more advanced topics from probability theory are needed. The last chapter demands a knowledge of operators in a finite dimensional Hilbert space. There are no exercises at the end of the chapters, since it is a research monograph. It is very readable and provides a very rigorous treatment of modern information theory. Hence, it is a welcome addition to the subject.
