The authors present a number of theorems dealing with robust stability for discrete-time linear time-invariant systems with frequency-dependent bounds of uncertainty. They extend the standard mixed structured singular value analysis to the case when the complex uncertainties have frequency dependent upper bounds. The authors consider robust stability of the uncertain system understood as stability for all uncertainties within the imposed bounds and uniform robust stability when the norm of the transfer matrix remains bounded by a quantity independent of the structured uncertainty. In the former case, the necessary and sufficient condition is formulated with no assumption on the norms-bounds on the block diagonal uncertainties. In the latter one, the frequency bound should be bounded and this assumption is essential. To insure necessity of the presented conditions the uncertainty bounds must satisfy irreducibility assumptions which however are not restrictive in the sense that they are related to the representation of the uncertainty set and not its properties. Moreover, the authors prove that some known robust stability theorems for frequency independent uncertainty bounds may be treated as special cases of their conditions. The continuous-time version of the main results is also briefly discussed.
