Schur's double centralizer theorem establishing a correspondence between representations of the symmetric group \(S_ m\) and representations of the Lie algebra \(\text{gl}(V)\) via its action on \(V^{\otimes m}\) was generalized by \textit{A. Berele} and \textit{A. Regev} [Adv. Math. 64, 118-175 (1987; Zbl 0617.17002)] to the Lie superalgebra \(\text{pl}(V)\), \(V\) a \(\mathbb{Z}_ 2\)-graded vector space. The author reproves these results in the setting of (quasi) triangular Hopf algebras. Thus, if \(H\) is a quasitriangular Hopf algebra acting on a vector space \(V\), then the braid group \(B_ m\) acts on \(V^{\otimes m}\) in such a way that the action of \(H\) on \(V^{\otimes m}\) is included in the centralizer of \(B_ m\) in \(\text{End }V^{\otimes m}\). Conversely, for \(V\) a \(\mathbb{Z}_ 2\)-graded vector space, a triangular Hopf algebra \(H = \cup(\text{pl }V)\# k\langle J\rangle\) is constructed, \(J\) an automorphism reflecting the grading, whose image coincides with the centralizer of the symmetric group.
