The authors study classes generalizing the set of sign nonsingular matrices. \(L_{n,k}\) is the set of matrices such that all Hadamard products with positive matrices of rank at most \(k\) are nonsingular. This is related to classes \(B_{n,k}\) of matrices \(A\) such that if \(U\) is a direct sum of at most \(k\) blocks \(J_ i\) and \(P,Q\) are permutations then the determinant of the Hadamard product of \(A\), \(PUQ\) is zero or has the same sign as \(\hbox{det} (A)\). They obtain results on various particular terms in these sequences and pose open problems.
