The author considers general weights \(P=(p_ n)_{n=1}\), where \(P_ n=\sum^{\infty}_{k=1}p_ k\to \infty\), \(p_ n/P_ n\to 0\) as \(n\to \infty\), and introduces general Hölder means \(H_ r^{(P)}\) and Cesàro means \(C_ r^{(P)}\) of arbitrary integer order r as well as general Abel means \(A^{(P)}\). For \(p_ n=1\) the classical methods are obtained. The known relations of the classical methods hold also in the more general case. Moreover, the method \(H_{\infty}^{(P)}\) is equivalent to a uniform method which is an improved version of Folgerung 2 in the reviewer's paper [Wiss. Z. Techn. Hochschule Karl-Marx-Stadt 17, 237-240 (1975; Zbl 0355.40003)]. The author claims a similar result for the method \(C_{\infty}^{(P)}\) which is false according to a personal communication. Finally some applications are given to the theory of uniform distribution of sequences in compact spaces.
