Let \(X\) be a Banach space and let \(f\in L^\infty(\mathbb{R}_{+},X)\) be a function whose Laplace transform extends analytically to some region containing \(i\mathbb{R}\backslash\{0\}\), possibly having a pole at the origin. In this paper, the author gives an estimate of the decay of certain slight suitable modifications of \(f\) in terms of the growth of its Laplace transform along the imaginary axis. As an application, she obtains a decay estimate of bounded semigroups on Banach spaces, which can be regarded as an extension of a result given by \textit{C. J. K. Batty} and \textit{T. Duyckaerts} [J. Evol. Equ. 8, No.~4, 765--780 (2008; Zbl 1185.47043)].
