This work is a continuation of the authors' investigations in part I [Ann. Inst. Fourier 51, 861--901 (2001; Zbl 1029.11036)] and part II [J. Anal. Math. 89, 239--276 (2003; Zbl 1130.37324)]. Based on this work, the authors construct Rokhlin stacks which describe the measure theoretic properties and characterize the eigenvalues of the transformation. By this representation, they describe all weakly mixing three-interval exchange transformations, thus deriving new examples of this type. They also show the existence of such maps with irrational eigenvalues and discrete spectrum, answering a question by Veech affirmatively.
