An extension of the Schwarz alternating method SAM (generalized Schwarz splitting-GSS) for solving elliptic boundary value problems is studied. Interface conditions which depend on a parameter that might differ in each overlapping region are generalized. The GSS is coupled with the cubic Hermite collocation discretization scheme. The domain of convergence is determined analytically. The GSS scheme is applied to a number of elliptic model problems to verify the theoretical results and to compare the convergence rates of the SAM and GSS schemes.
