In 1978, \textit{E. M. Sylvia}, \textit{H. Silverman}, and \textit{D. Telage} obtained characterizations for the class of convex, starlike, and spiral- like functions in terms of convolutions (convolution conditions for convexity, starlikeness and spiral-likeness, Math. Z. 162, 125-130 (1978; Zbl 0369.30004). This paper extends these to several other special classes. For example, \(f(z)=z+a_ 2z^ 2+...\), analytic in the unit disc, is in the class K(A,B), where \(-1\leq B<A\leq 1\), if \((1+zf''/f')\) is in the disc with center \((1-AB)/(1-B^ 2)\) and radius \((A-B)/(1-B^ 2)\). When \(B=-1\), the disc is replaced by the half plane \(\{\) Re w\(>(1- A)/2\}.)\). Then \(f\in K(A,B)\) if and only if 1/z(f*g(x,z))\(\neq 0\) for all x with \(| x| =1\). Here \(g(x,z)=zx(1-z)^{-3}+[z^ 2x(A+B)+2z^ 2](B-A)^{-1}(1-z)^{-3}\). (The actual theorems proved are slightly more general.)
