The authors define a generalized block Toeplitz matrix to be a \(k_ 1\times k_ 2\) block matrix T whose (i,j)th block is an \(n_ 1\times n_ 2\) matrix \(a_{i-j}\) with \(k_ 1n_ 1=k_ 2n_ 2\). They extend methods of \textit{A. Ben-Artzi} and the second author [Linear Algebra Appl. 75, 173-192 (1986; Zbl 0586.15005)] to obtain inversion theorems for this class of matrices, and derive similar results for block Vandermonde matrices.
