    For nonnegative integers i,j let \(a_{ij}=\sqrt{(i+1)(j+1)}/(i+j+1)^ 2\) and let \(A=[a_{ij}]^{\infty}_{i,j=0}\) be the infinite matrix regarded as bounded selfadjoint operator in \(1_ 2\). This operator is the Bergman space analogue of the Hilbert matrix. The following facts about A are proved: \(\| A\| <\pi^ 2/6\); A has isolated eigenvalues of finite multiplicity; \[ \inf \{\| Ax\|:x=\{x_ j\}^{\infty}_{j=1},\quad x_ 1\geq x_ 2\geq...\geq 0,\quad \| x\| =1\}\geq 2/3(\sum_{i>1}1/i^ 4)^{1/2}. \]
