Let \(G\) be an Abelian group and \(f\) be a real-valued function defined on \(G\). The authors prove the following two results: (i) \(f\) is solution of the equation \(\max \{f(x + y), f(x-y)\} = f(x) + f(y)\), \(x,y \in G\), iff \(f(x) = | a(x) |\), where \(a\) is a real-valued additive function defined on \(G\). (ii) If, in addition, each element of \(G\) is divisible by 6, then \(f\) is a solution of the equation \(\max \{f(x + y), f(x-y)\}= f(x) f(y)\), \(x,y \in G\), iff either \(f(x) \equiv 0\) or \(f(x) = \exp | a(x) |\), where \(a\) is a real-valued additive function defined on \(G\).
