The author explains that chaos in deterministic mechanical systems can occur due to two different types of instability, namely, either by a Lyapunov type instability or a Hadamard type instability. In the definition of the author the former leads to weak and the latter to strong chaos. Geometrical explanations and physical examples of both types are given.
