The authors investigate various properties of the linear operator \(D_A=\frac{\partial}{\partial t}-A(t)\) acting on spaces of periodic functions with values in a Banach space with UMD (unconditionality of martingale differences). The operators \(\pm A(t)\) are not assumed to generate any semigroup.
