For a given Cartan datum \((I,\cdot)\) and the corresponding simply connected root datum \((Y,X=\text{Hom}(Y,\mathbb{Z}))\) [\textit{G. Lusztig}, ``Introduction to quantum groups'', Prog. Math. 110, Birkhäuser, Boston (1993; Zbl 0788.17010)] the authors investigate the category \({\mathcal C}\) of finite-dimensional \(X\)-graded vector spaces where the small quantum group \(u\) acts on [\textit{G. Lusztig}, Geom. Dedicata 35, No. 1-3, 89-114 (1990; Zbl 0714.17013)]. They introduce the category \({\mathcal F}{\mathcal S}\) of factorizable sheaves which is of geometrical origin. A factorizable sheaf is by definition a pair \((\mu,{\mathcal X})\) where \(\mu\in X\) and \(\mathcal X\) is a perverse sheaf over the space of positive \(Y\)-valued divisors of the unit disc in the complex plane. The authors then show that \(\mathcal C\) is equivalent to the category \({\mathcal F}{\mathcal S}\) considered as a ribbon category. Therefore they provide a geometric interpretation of \(\mathcal C\) in terms of factorizable sheaves.
