Let \(X,Y\) be locally compact Hausdorff spaces and let \(A,B\) be the uniform closures of two function algebras on \(X\) and \(Y\) respectively. Let \(P,Q\) be non-empty sets. This paper deals with the structure of surjections \(T_1: P \rightarrow B\), \(T_2: Q \rightarrow B\) which satisfy the condition (joint norm additivity) that for some surjections \(S_1: P \rightarrow A\), \(S_2: Q \rightarrow A\), \(\|T_1(p)+T_2(q)\| = \|S_1(p)+S_2(q)\|\) for \(p \in P\), \(q \in Q\). The description is in terms of a surjective homomorphism of the Choquet boundaries, a continuous unimodular weight function on the Choquet boundary of \(B\). The values are determined by a clopen subset of the Choquet boundary of \(B\) as well as fixed points from the zero sets of \(S_1,S_2\). In order to prove this theorem, the authors first study the structure of surjective real-linear isometries between \(A,B\) and use the Mazur-Ulam theorem to obtain the conclusion in the case of jointly norm-additive maps.
